Brian Smith, a Double Eagle with a BA in history and Masters in education, came back to the Heights to speak to students on Wednesday night.
Emphasizing communication and networking, Brian told the group, “LinkedIn is basically the reason I am here tonight.” He stressed the importance of maintaining a positive online reputation, as well as taking advantage of the relative ease of online networking. Below are some more of Brian’s networking tips:
- Make your network as diverse as possible
- Professors want to help you with job search–and they know some people you want to know
- Don’t be afraid to get to know people you think don’t have career resources for you. You never know!
- Use Career Center resources (really! we didn’t even ask him to say that!)
