On Tuesday September 13th, over 45 Boston College undergraduate students from the College of Arts & Sciences and the Carroll School of Management attended a special event “The Road to the Show”, hosted by the Boston Red Sox. They were joined by Professor Christine Caswell (A&S – Communications) and members of the Career Center. Students from other selected colleges and universities in Boston also attended this exclusive invitation-only event.
Students participated in a one-hour Q&A session moderated by Red Sox play-by-play radio personality Dave O’Brien. The topics included internships and employment in professional sports management, insight to careers and career paths, and tips for entering and succeeding in the very competitive professional sports industry. Students were encouraged to submit questions in advance and to ask questions live during the session. The panelists included Red Sox CEO Larry Lucchino, Assistant GM Ben Cherington, and members of the Red Sox Public Affairs, Marketing, Human Resources, and Operations staff. Following the panel discussion, students were joined by dozens of Red Sox staff from all departments on the right-field roof-deck for additional Q&A and more informal networking. Finally, all attendees were invited to remain at Fenway for the baseball game (where Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield recorded his 200th major league win).
