Root Cause is offering a fall fellowship program for those interested in gaining work experience or transitioning into the nonprofit sector. Root Cause fall fellowships are a great opportunity to join a dynamic organization and be involved with cutting-edge work in the exciting field of social innovation.
These unpaid fellowships will be based out of our Cambridge, MA Office, located in Central Square. The four month fellowships run from August 17th to December 23rd. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until Monday, July 20th.
Applicants with significant work experience and/or graduate degrees will be considered for Senior Fellowship positions in the initiatives and positions listed below, both carrying out the organization’s daily activities with a high level of responsibility and also designing projects that add capacity to the initiative with supervision from Root Cause’s senior leadership.
Communications Fellow: Root Cause seeks a fellow to assist with general support to the knowledge sharing and communication department. The work of the communications fellow supports the integrity of Root Cause’s messaging and communication both internally and to the world at large. Areas of responsibility will include but are not limited to marketing/branding (e.g. writing, editing, web content development, web site management, design, brand management), communications/community building (e.g. events, e-outreach), technology (e.g. data management and research), and knowledge (e.g. research, writing, and editing for Root Cause knowledge products). The fellow will also have the opportunity to participate in new strategic branding initiatives.
Social Innovation Forum Fellow: The Social Innovation Forum (SIF) seeks a fellow to support the selection of 2010 Social Innovators. The fellow will coordinate and participate in the evaluation committee meetings and interview sessions. In addition, the fellow will spearhead the analysis of evaluations for the review committees and provide feedback to applicants that are not selected. Furthermore, the SIF fellow will also be involved in the daily operations of the organization, ranging from database management to event planning. In addition, there will be opportunities to participate in development and marketing tasks that advance Social Innovation Forum’s mission.
Social Impact Research Fellow: Social Impact Research seeks a fellow to help execute its products and services. The fellow will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of projects including, but not limited to: conducting research and analysis on social issues, approaches used to solve social problems, and the performance of nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts. The SIR fellow will also be involved in the daily operations of the organization, ranging from database management to providing business development support. Additionally the SIR fellow will have the opportunity to work across several initiatives on the development and coordination of the new Strategic Philanthropy Workshop Series.
Public Innovators Fellow: Public Innovators seeks a fellow to assist with current initiatives already underway (including the Louisiana Office of Social Entrepreneurship, the Texas Center for Social Impact, and support of federal efforts such as the White House Office of Social Innovation and the Social Innovation Fund), as well as helping to cultivate new opportunities for government-based efforts to support social innovation in Massachusetts, Minnesota, and other cities and states. Fellows may also be involved in: research, writing, and publication activities; fundraising; website and social media outreach; the development of strategic partnerships; and other operational aspects of the PI initiative. (Preference for the PI fellowship will be given to applicants who are able to start in mid to late July)

Knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and internet research is a must.
Knowledge of Dreamweaver, HTML, Drupal, Salesforce, Vertical Response or InDesign is a plus but not required
Ability to commit to the full, four month period
Applicants with bachelor’s degrees preferred, although gap year students will be considered
Compensation Details/Other Benefits: Serving at a fellow with Root Cause provides significant opportunities for professional growth and development. Fellows are often able to attend various events, meetings, networking opportunities and trainings. We are eager to help fellows craft projects that help meet their education and career needs. References and/or letters of recommendation will be available to fellows who thrive in this position. While we are unable to pay fellows, we are eager to work with colleges or programs that offer stipends or academic credit.
